Humbled - From Prince to Man

Try and put yourself in Jesus' shoes. Just getting on with his life in heaven, doing those things fitting for a prince. A comfortable royal life with more than enough people around Him to do everything for Him. And from time to time He and God have board meetings with the other big shots in heaven.

At one such meeting the same worry is on the table again. Humans have lost the way. They've rebelled and chosen against God and God's New World. Actually, they are simply muddling along, not even realizing that they won't make it to heaven. They are so lost and they can't save themselves. They will end up in hell.

Tears are flowing around the boardroom table. The board members are at their wits end and don't know what to do. They can no longer stand to see humans suffer so. All are grieving, because the people are so blind that they cannot see that eternal hell will be their reward.

God and Jesus excuse themselves from the boardroom. After a long silence they return: "We have a rescue plan. Humankind's wages is death. That our loved ones are fated to die one after the other, grieves us deeply. We are heartbroken about it. Therefore, we have decided that Someone must die in their place. Someone have to bear the punishment for sin in their place."

There was an uncomfortable silence in the boardroom.

God went on: "Jesus put up his hand and volunteered to do it. He will let go of his heavenly privileges and go to earth as a human. He will walk the dusty roads of earth with the people. He will suffer with them, but He will also teach them about God. He will take them by the hand and show them how they should live. He will show them his heart and invite them to follow Him."

Jesus cleared his throat: "I will do even more, because you see, my love for humankind is so great that I have no choice. I will even take away all their sin. I will bear the punishment for their sin."

Someone in the boardroom asked in surprise: "But how will You do it? How will people's guilt simply be taken away?"

Jesus lowered his head and after a long silence answered: "I will die for them." Jesus continued: "Yes, I will go into hell so that those who believe in Me will not be lost, but have Eternal Life... "

7When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. 8It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn't claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death-and the worst kind of death at that-a crucifixion.

If you were the King, would you have done the same?

Reflection

Do you really know what Jesus has done for you?

Will you die for others?

Really?

Prayer

Father, You are full of grace. You have changed our final destination irrevocably. In the process your Son became equal to man, but even more, died on a cross - for us. Thank you Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you! Amen
