Moscow Towers Over Trump

Donald Trump is a nonstop hurricane wreaking havoc on the world since his 2016 election. A third of the American public applauds the force of his will, based on his word rather than on fact. He says the economy is fine and his adherents believe. The facts show mixed signals. In truth,,fact checkers prove that Trump is breaking all-time records with his lies. They are based on gut instinct with no input from the formidable US intelligence agencies, maybe because Trump wants nothing more than to build a Trump Tower Moscow.

"I came, I saw, I conquered," Julius Caesar said in the days of yore Trump may have seized on that boast when he visited Russia in 1989, the year that the Iron Curtain fell across Europe and brought the end of the former Soviet Union, now the Russian Federation. No doubt Trump saw opportunity and he grabbed it.

Getting what he wants by any means is the Trump motto according to numerous accounts. The end goal and its merits are of little consequence. If he takes umbrage at a slight, the person will be fired. Period.. It is a driving force that was laid bare in the infamous "Access Hollywood Tapes," where Trump bragged that he was drawn to manhandle beautiful women because he couldn't help himself and his stardom gave him license to indulge his impulses.

Donald Trump indulges instant gratification and if a Trump Tower Moscow has eluded him for thirty years, his desire to have it must be rabid. In turn, KGB-trained Vladimir Putin surely knows the value of such lust and knows just how to dangle the temptation for maximum effect in achieving his own ends.

Russia is economically defunct. It has a lot of territory and a large population but few natural resources. In its Soviet Union incarnation, Russia made its living by pillaging the resources of its conquests. Currently, its Putin-designated oligarchs operate worldwide to funnel dark money according to Putin's bidding. Those oligarchs have been linked to the Trump conglomerate, as well as to key Republican Senate leader "Moscow Mitch" as he has been dubbed. To the untrained naked eye, it certainly seems that Putin has laid a wide net in which to make Trump earn the tower he wants in Moscow.

The Trump Tower Moscow Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2016 while Trump was running for President. He repeatedly denied any dealings with Russia. and as indictments came down from the Mueller investigation, he asserted that he knew nothing about any of those dealings. He maintained that stance even as his own son bragged that Russia was the major source of the Trump Organization income.

Like father, like son, the Trumps back up each other with lies so cleverly that there's no telling who is lying about what. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin stays silent perhaps pulls the strings on the chaos Trump is unleashing on the world for no bigger purpose, perhaps, than to get a chance to build his Trump Tower Moscow..

In pursuit of that goal, Trump may have stumbled into a morass beyond his wildest fears. He's adept at lying, deflecting, conning, throwing fairy dust and mangling the legal system. He has practiced those skills all his life and he is good at them. He has never, however, had to perform in the legal fishbowl of the US Presidency under media scrutiny.

No one knows where the Trump Tower Moscow project stands but a few facts are clear. Trump promotes Russian Putin and the indulgence is not reciprocal. It is a one-way street, just as it is between Trump and other dictators like Xi of China and Kim of North Korea. Trump's affinity for Putin, however, is especially remarkable. He has invited Putin to the White House. Putin has not come.

Putin may be waiting to see how his compact with Trump turns out, whatever that may entail. No doubt schemer Putin has a plan. Trump has none except to keep the world on edge so as to keep the spotlight on himself as US President.

If Trump became President simply because he wanted a Trump Tower in Moscow and Putin engineered his election to dangle the prospect of the Tower to him in exchange for global favors, then history will have a laugh. Laughs, however, will only come if Trump can be kept from throwing the whole world under the bus once he's done with the US.
