Providing GOOD Leadership

By Richard Brody

Wouldn't it be nice, if those we elected, selected, or ascend, to serving us, as our leaders, focused on doing what might be, our best interests, focused on the common good, rather than any personal agenda, or self - interest? Many individuals over - think, this concept and issue, rather than, merely, focusing on what should be the core behavior, which is providing truly GOOD leadership! In today's world, where there appears to be few quality leaders, and, more of an overall, dearth of genuine, meaningful, effective leadership, wouldn't it be better, if we focused on achievements, vision, focus, and actions, rather than empty promises, ego, and rhetoric? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, examine, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this necessitates, and why it makes a significant difference.

1. Generate goodwill; growth; never good - enough: In my over four decades of identifying, qualifying, training, developing and consulting to thousands of actual, and/ or potential leaders, I have witnessed, many, who merely, talk - the - talk, but rarely, walk - the - walk! Good leadership must be driven, by emphasizing the concept of generating goodwill, so the organization, will undergo, relevant, sustainable, growth. In order to be successful, over the longer - term, a leader must believe, that, there is no such thing, as good - enough, and drives himself, forward, in a relevant manner!

2. Options; opportunities: Rather than believing, leading, is My way or the highway, and rather, seeking a variety of options and alternatives, one takes a huge step forward, towards becoming a quality leader! Being ready to recognize the best opportunities, which may present themselves, and/ or creating one, for himself, differentiates better leaders, from the rest of the pack!

3. Opinions; offers: Before seeking, and/ or considering, becoming a leader, it's important to develop enough self - confidence, to expand the security of one's personal comfort zone, and be willing to express and articulate opinions, in a well - considered, constituent - oriented, manner! Always begin your evaluation and consideration, by asking yourself, what do your ways, offer others, which serves them, and the group!

4. Delve deeply; deliver; demand personal best: Look beyond the obvious, or surface ideas! Rather, better leaders consistently delve deeply, into the options and alternatives, needs, goals, priorities, perceptions, and objectives! A true leader must proceed, to over - deliver, and under - promise! Never accept anything less than your personal best!

Will you provide GOOD leadership, consistently? Will you be, up to the task, and responsibilities?
