How to Stand Up for Yourself in Accusing Situations

By Rosina S Khan

At times in your life, people will confront you with false accusations. Under these circumstances, do not remain silent but stand up for yourself and defend yourself and disarm your accuser. How do you do that? Read on to find out.

Here are five scenarios to give you insights:

Scenario 1

Someone accuses you of stealing her purse on a moving train although you are quite innocent. Tell her straight forward: "Why would I need to steal your purse? I have my own purse. And I am in a good paying job and have a great reputation at work" Show her your card and dismiss her accusation.

Scenario 2

Someone at work blames you for not meeting the deadline for the current work project but it is totally untrue. Tell him: "I am not new to this kind of work. I have been working here for the last five years and people who know me here understand that I am an honest and sincere person, committed and dedicated completely to work. Find out whose fault it is. After all, it is teamwork and I have already completed my portion of the work project and handed it over to our team leader. Have you anything else to say?"

Scenario 3

One of your parents accuses you for not paying attention to school lessons and assignments because he always sees you hang around with friends and go on dating. In this case, how do you save your face? Be totally honest. "Yes, Dad I do hang around with friends and go on dating. But I also do go through my lessons, attend classes and quizzes and complete assignments, helping each other in a study group. That is why you probably see me going out with friends more often. I have it all rounded up. I even scored high in all the quizzes so far. I can show them to you as a proof."

Scenario 4

One of your guy friends blames your boyfriend for picking you up. He says he is more interested in you and that your boyfriend is just a fake person. He can make you happy while your boyfriend will suck up the relationship eventually. How do you defend yourself? Tell him the truth about how you perceive your boyfriend: "So far we have been going evenly. I completely trust him. He looks like a good guy. We hold fun conversations, joke around and go on dates. I love everything about him and couldn't dream of losing him." Your guy friend will be speechless and totally off guard.

Scenario 5

One of your girl friends attacks you for the way you cut your hair. You are completely taken up by surprise. All the same, tell her courageously: "My hair grows long very quickly. But from time to time, especially during the summer, I do get a haircut like this. It's something not only I like but also my other friends, relatives, colleagues, acquaintances and even strangers. They all compliment me whenever I get a haircut like this. What have you got against it? Please mind your own business." And walk away from her promptly.

Summing up, these are a few examples of accusing scenarios in real life you may have to confront yourself. Be bold, have your say, stand up for yourself and clear up the situation. That way you don't hold any grudges and you will come out as a thriving winner.
