A Moderate, Political Approach To Making America Win: 7 Keys

By Richard Brody

What does it really mean, to make our nation, focus more on winning, than, some perceive, we have done, in the recent past? Like many concepts, winning is often, more, based on perceptions, than reality, and results. Often, when one believes he won some battle, although, it might seem, to be, a victory, in the short - term, the longer - term ramifications, are, often, quite the contrary. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, consider, review, evaluate, and discuss. 7 keys, to, truly, making America, as great as it might possibly be. It's important to recognize and understand, this means, respecting the history and heritage of our nation, which distinguishes the United States, from most of the rest of the world, and victory, only comes, when the results, benefit the common good, rather than, merely, some political agenda, or self - interest.

1. Internal domestic safety/ security: In a world, full of so much hatred, division, and violence, wouldn't it be better, if we could feel more secure, and safe from as much of this, as possible? However, until/ unless, this is done on a focused, balanced approach, where respect for our freedoms and liberties, are major components, we will never be, where we should be! We need political leaders, who avoid blaming and complaining, or resorting to vitriol, empty promises, and populist rhetoric, and seek to unite, rather than polarize. In these days, of President Donald Trump, where there seems to be more focus on appealing to his core supporters, rather than unifying, our nation is threatened, and we are certainly, not winning!

2. International security: There are far too many, safety and security challenges, in our world. Everything seems focused on one's narrow, self - serving agenda, and pitting, nations against each other, without trying to learn and discover, ways of identifying the best, possible approaches.

3. Quality health care: During the campaign in 2016, Donald Trump often complained about the Affordable Care Act, promising less expensive, far better, health care, and medical insurance. However, the attempts, of the Republican Congress, and this President, have seemed, far, more focused on dismantling one of the achievements of President Obama, rather than creating, a plan, for the better! Do you feel like we are winning, yet?

4. Fair tax system: President Trump often resorted to the populist language, of creating the greatest tax cut, ever, and focusing on the middle - class! The resulting legislation, however, created the largest cuts, to the wealthiest 1%, and corporations, and much smaller cuts to the middle - class. In many cases, especially in those states, with higher state and local taxes, many will not win, at all! Winning should mean, developing, creating, and implementing, a fairer, better, more responsible system, of taxation.

5. Job training/ retraining: Rather than promising certain industries, their jobs will return, wouldn't it be better, to focus on training, and/ or retraining, so Americans were as prepared, as possible, and competitive, in the world?

6. Protecting American freedoms and liberties: Immediately after the tragedies of September 11, 2001, the late, great, comedian, George Carlin, created a routine, called, The Terrorists Win. The essence of this, was, if we abandon our commitments to those essential freedoms and liberties, than distinguish and differentiate us, they will have achieved their objective, of harming and disrupting, our way of life!

7. Maintaining American greatness: We are not winning, when we pit one group, versus another, rather than seeking common ground, and respect for differences, etc. Vitriol and polarizing, does mean, we win, but, rather, diminishes America!

Slogans such as. Make America Great Again, are merely rhetoric, because they don't explain, either, how, or why! It also, by using the word, again, implies, our nation, no longer is. Let's all yearn, for a time, when we are truly winning!
