Where Does He Fit in?

Paul is in tears. He cannot believe that some people do not choose Jesus. How can people do that? How can people oppose Someone who gave his life for all sinners on earth? Paul simply cannot understand it. I can't understand it either.

Therefore, Paul's harsh warning: 18There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I've warned you of them many times; sadly, I'm having to do it again. 19All they want is easy street. They hate Christ's Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.

I tried to think if I knew any people who reject Jesus. I know lots of people in different spheres of life, but I struggled to find someone who blatantly rejects Jesus. I know there are people like that, but not really in my circle of friends.

But the more I consider this verse, the more I realize that many of us tend to chase after other things and do not put Jesus at the centre of our lives. Look at the picture of your life. We focus much more easily on other things than on God. Isn't God sort of on the edge of our lives? Don't we only pull him closer every now and then?

Think back on what you did this past week. How much time did you spend on yourself and the people around you? How much time did you spend with Jesus?

Sorry about all the questions, but we so easily read over these verses, thinking they are not applicable to us. I may be playing devil's advocate here, but sometimes we should look in the mirror to make sure we're not leaning towards people who blatantly push Jesus away.

So much of our energy is spent on our own desires. The original Greek translation reads their stomach is their God and their thoughts centre on earthly things only.

Oops! How much of ourselves do we recognise here?

And no, there's nothing wrong about cooking and preparing juicy meals. Even less is it wrong to enjoy aspects of life here on earth. But we must make sure that it doesn't take over, that it doesn't become our focus and in the process pushes Jesus into the background.

Let's rather concentrate on Jesus. Let's brag about Him.

Like a child once said: "If Jesus is so big and can be inside us too, He must stick out everywhere!"

May Jesus stick out of you everywhere you go!

Reflection

What activities take up most of your time?

Do you think that should change?

In what way do you involve God in your life?

Prayer

Jesus, You are our Saviour and King. Please help us to honour You by involving You in all that we do. Amen
