Excelling At Work

Everyone of us would like to be a good employee and want to excel at our job. It is not simply a matter of being good at what we do but also involve issues like being professional, our attitude and teamwork. Putting the extra effort, taking steps to shine in your job have to be punctual, put in a full day of work, keep personal calls to a minimum, and courteous, dressing appropriately for the job.

People like working with positive attitude co-workers. Negative attitudes will drag everyone around them down.

Working as a team is a requisite where ever we work. Unless you run your own business, we are expected to be a member of the team. Working in a team means we have to work with many different personalities trying to perform the best.

There are many opportunities for us to make others happy, be it our co-worker, customer, mentor, manager, supervisor. We just take the time to make someone matter this day. It is as simple as saying good morning, listening instead of talking, returning your phone calls. Just be thoughtful instead of rude in our interactions.

Do something more for yourself, your employer, or customer than is required and be willing to help without being asked. Maybe we are uncomfortable at first.

Learn to handle constructive criticism to improve our performance at work. Some boss may want everything done their way but some are just feedback to us to let us perform better at work.

Gossips and rumors can downgrade our standing with our boss and colleagues. No matter where we work, we will encounter people plotting against each other for position and power. We have no choice but to work within the system. Try to avoid crossing a person with power. Best not to be identify with a power group over the other because if the leader left that group, we will lose the support. Instead prove our skills and abilities within the workplace. Perform our job to the best we can by assisting the people in power. Provide good working relationships but guard against our ambitions and protecting ourselves from possible attacks.

When we are new to the job or learning a new task, always ask questions even repeating the same ones until we fully understand the answer than making mistakes which is not possible of recovering.

Try to understand your boss' expectations and the organisation's mission to enable us to better understand our role and the value of the job we provide. Taking the opportunities to learn new skills. People do not like complainer but problem-solver. Helping the new worker learn the ropes will put us in good light with the boss.

It is important for us to strive to do our best at work not to impress the boss but having a sense of accomplishing a job well done.
